Inside the Public Library

The new Public Library offers a quality service and the staff is really friendly and helpful.
They need to buy more books though, there’s a lot of empty space in the bookshelves and some important titles are not there yet. But I trust that will change soon enough.
They also have lots of activities, like storytelling for the kids, origami, painting, puppets…
There’s only one flaw: when I was taking this photo in the hall a lady member of staff came to me and said I couldn’t take any more pictures without being authorized by the President (Mayor), which was a big surprise because I would expect that sort of prohibition in military facilities but not in the public library foyer. It seems to me like a pointless rule and a lousy public relations policy.
Anyway, I recommend a visit. You can read books there or borrow them (after registering and getting a card), use the Internet, read the newspapers, watch a DVD,…

We call them “vinagreiras” in Portuguese, because of the taste of the stem, bitter like vinegar. We kids used to chew and then spit it while we walked all the way to primary school when I was a child.

Missing Christmas near Easter

Every year the Municipality sets up a Nativity scene in a public garden. This one (a rather original approach) is from the Christmas of 2007.
